School Bands Programme

Our school's Band Program has existed since 1961. It provides children with an opportunity to learn an instrument, to work as a team – which helps the children realise how important each person's individual contribution is to the whole group's performance – and to enjoy making music. Our approach is to provide encouragement and to acknowledge improvement and effort so that children have a positive learning experience.

Our bands have participated successfully in external competitions and perform regularly at school assemblies and functions. Children in Years 3 to 6 may join the Band Program. Year 3 students start in the Junior Band, Year 4 students continue into the Intermediate Band, Years 5 and 6 students progress to the Senior Band.

From Year 3, children are invited to join the Junior Band. No previous experience or any musical knowledge is necessary. An instrument is selected for each child with input from the conductor and parents.

Band members attend a weekly lesson with an individual music tutor after school and a weekly band rehearsal before school. Parents of the band students are rostered on once per term to help the band conductors run the weekly rehearsals smoothly.  The band rosters are done through our band managament system BandForte.

The school's Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) organises and funds the band through its Band Committee. The P&C employs the band conductor, selects music tutors and purchases music, instruments and equipment. Members of the Bands pay an annual fee that covers instrument hire and the conductors' fees, and they pay their tutors directly for instrument lessons.

Band bags can be ordered from the Uniform Shop if required.
